The National Indian Education Association (NIEA) was formed in 1970, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by Native educators who were anxious to find solutions to improve the education system for Native children. The NIEA Convention was established to mark the beginning of a national forum for sharing and developing ideas, and influencing federal policy. |

Navajo Nation Seal of Bilingual Proficiency Program
The Navajo Nation Seal of Bilingual Proficiency Assessment is for graduating High School seniors who can speak Diné Language. For more information on the assessment including registration, click here >
Navajo Traditional Apprenticeship Program
The Navajo Apprenticeship Program is designed to train enrolled participants on Navajo traditional healing ceremonies and other Navajo ceremonies in danger of being lost while becoming proficient as a Navajo traditional healing practitioner. For more information, click here >
Diné Language Culture Assessment for Teachers
Our Office of Standards, Curriculum, and Assessment Developments offers a newly revised exam to certify its own Native teachers for ongoing revitalization effort using oral Dine Language, Culture, History, and Government through partnership with tri-state departments of education- New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. For Grades 4-8: The first Thanksgiving is a lesson told to many students across the country each fall. But the role of the Indigenous peoples are often incomplete, if not inaccurate. This study by the National Museum of the American Indian provides a template for a more in-depth discussion of their role at the pivotal moment in U.S. history.
